Can I request a name reservation for my business in Virginia?

Asked 6 months ago
Yes, you can request a name reservation for your business in Virginia. To do so, you need to complete and submit the Name Reservation Application to the Virginia Secretary of State. This application can be found on the Secretary of State's website. The fee for a name reservation is $10. Once your application is processed and the name is approved, the reservation will be valid for 120 days. During this time, no other entity can use the reserved name. However, the reservation does not guarantee the availability of the name for business registration purposes. To secure the name fully, you must file the appropriate formation paperwork to register your business with the Secretary of State.
